Election: 2008 The election over and without and dispute Barack Obama is now our president elect. Why is he our new president? This is largely in part to our countries ignorance, laziness, racism, the media and its utter disregard for self responsibility. I want to take this opportunity to lay out why I am disappointed, but satisfied with the outcome of this election. Then once I'm done with this article I will lay this issue to rest and start riding out the next 4 years with the hope that our country can figure out this path was never one set by our fore fathers and that we need to return to our original course. Let's start on our counties ignorance in this issue. Actually, if we could sell ignorance then it would probably become our major export and we'd make so much money that an economic crisis couldn't happen. Why are we so ignorance? I don't know. Mostly I believe it has to do with our lack of responsibility to be informed about the issues and things that are going on around us. A good example of this is all the videos and interviews you see with people on the street who are voting for Obama but if given a list of issues they agree with McCain. This means that people really don't know what the candidates are standing for. Then if for some reason you do line up with Obama's views, you usually are ignorant to what exactly those views do and how they affect this country. Let's take economics for a minute. I don't think there is anyone out there that can defend Obama's economical plan against welfare, if not socialism. At least they can't do it without lying. Then if you agree with his views then you are agreeing that money should be taking from those who work hardest for it and given to those who don't in an effort to "spread the wealth". Okay, now I'll give you a pass on how completely unconstitutional and just plain wrong that is and let you know how this effects our economy. If you raise taxes on the rich (i.e. the people that own all the businesses and give us our jobs) they will then, in turn, raise the price of their product (i.e. your food, rent and other goods) and will also cut wages and jobs all together. Now, you won't make money and what little money you do make won't get you nearly as far. This is the same thing that happens with minimal wage increases. It doesn't help anyone because all the things you buy daily (like from groceries stores and fast food restaurants) go up in price to cover the cost of wages. Now you have completely negated the point of raising minimal wage! His ideal economic view boils down to this: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" - Karl Marx This is the perfect segway into laziness because this type of thinking and policy does only one thing. Promote laziness. Why? Well if the government promises to provide you with enough money to keep a roof over your head, food in your stomach and medical care. Will you work for a living? Why would you? You can just sit back and let the government take care of it. So you what's wrong with that? Well eventually everyone will get lazy. I mean I'm not going to work my ass off and make more and more money just so that the government can take it from me and give it to you. No one will. Then I ask you, does that even sound fair? I mean do you really want me to be punished because I work harder than you? Just because you didn't get off your ass and go to school or get a good job that's my fault and I should give you my money? Again, let me point out that those questions are inane since it's completely unconstitutional anyway. Of course, as Steven Colbert puts it, "... there are all sorts of things you can endorse without supporting, like the Constitution." Now I want to make a point I made a while back in a diary entry. I also believe a large part of this race was about race. I believe that there was an amazing amount of people who voted for Obama simply because he was black and not because he was the right person for the job. I believe this is one of those times that democracy takes a giant shit on itself. Please don't get me wrong, I think it's perfectly fine to elect someone who is African American, Chinese American, Mexican American, or any other none European American decent but I do not believe it is fine (actually it is completely wrong) to elect them solely because of that racial decent. This again ties back to responsibility, the responsibility to be informed and vote for the person that will do the best job, not the person with your favorite color. If color had any impact on your decision in this election, you should be just as ashamed as if you voted against someone for their color. I don't want to take much time to pick on the media. However I do need to mention that, without a doubt, the media is dead. Besides a few outlets that are hard to find, the media did a retched job at covering this race. They were totally in bed with the liberals and the Obama campaign. Those who weren't were so bias the other way that few took them serious. I know I didn't. I hope that some where we can revive what it means to report the news, but I and doubting it will happen. Besides, I don't blame the media, I blame those who watch them and follow them blindly like lemmings. Let me add one more note before I end this. The Republican Party, the party that should be representing my conservative views, failed us tonight. They picked a candidate who has long forgotten the core values of conservatism. They failed to unite us and excite us and because of this poorly run party and campaign we, the people you represent, did not show up to support you. I hope you get the message and realize where you went wrong and even more so hope that you work on getting back to what gave you the power you've abused so much in the last 8 years. I can only imagine how many times Ronald Reagan has turned in his grave in these past years. ""I didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me!" - Ronald Reagan With that, I will lay the majority of the blame on the American people. I believe their ignorance and lack of responsibility has put us on course for a destination that we don't want to reach. If things go as I fear we will have the worst years my generation has ever seen. However, I hope that this is not true. Maybe the new leader of the free world will not turn out to be as bad as he looks. We can't really make predictions because we don't know who he is but know this, America you now have the leader you deserve. Good or bad. | |||||
